Free Hockey Auction Software for Live Player Bidding
Auction Ace runs a live hockey player auction where every team works from the same budget, bids land in real time on every device, and the board is ready to project or stream.
It suits club leagues, state and district tournaments, university competitions and corporate hockey leagues — field or ice — that want a proper auction night instead of a manual draft.
Hockey auction settings you control
Every rule below is configurable per auction, so the software matches your league's format instead of forcing you into someone else's.
Team budget
Every team starts with the same budget in currency or points, debited automatically on each winning bid.
Position groups
Call the pool as forwards, midfielders, defenders and goalkeepers so teams build a complete side rather than a front line.
Position limits
Cap how many players a team can take per position, and require at least one goalkeeper, so every squad is fieldable.
Specialist tags
Tag drag-flickers, penalty-corner specialists and set-piece takers so teams know what they are bidding on before the clock runs down.
Squad size
Set minimum and maximum squad sizes so teams finish with eleven plus substitutes.
Bid increments
Choose how much each raise adds to keep contested players moving.
Every squad needs a keeper
Hockey squads fail in predictable ways when the draft is unstructured — plenty of forwards, no goalkeeper, and nobody who can take a penalty corner. An auction that enforces position minimums solves that before it happens.
Auction Ace lets you group the pool by position, call each group as its own round, and set both caps and minimums per position. Teams still bid freely for the striker everyone wants, but they cannot walk away from the night without a keeper between the posts.
The host nominates a player, a countdown runs, team representatives bid from their own devices, and the player joins the winning squad when the timer expires. Budgets and position counts update live everywhere at once.
How to run your hockey auction
- 1
Build the player pool

Create teams and budgets
Add each team with its crest and starting budget, then invite the manager to a private bidding console by link.
- 3
Set position rules
Define squad minimums and maximums, per-position caps and minimums, increments, timer length and the round order.
- 4
Run auction night
Nominate from the host console with the public board on a projector and the overlay feeding your stream.
What you get on auction night
Position minimums and caps
Guarantee every squad has a goalkeeper and a workable spread across the pitch before the pool empties.
Real-time bidding
All devices see the same bid at the same instant, with bid order recorded for close finishes.
Streaming overlays
Browser sources for OBS and vMix showing the current player, leading bid, standings and completed squads.
Budget enforcement
Teams cannot bid past their remaining budget, and every purse updates the moment a player sells.
Hockey auction FAQs
Does this work for field hockey and ice hockey?
Both. Set your position groups and squad sizes to match your format and the auction runs the same either way.
Can I require every team to buy a goalkeeper?
Yes. Set a per-position minimum for goalkeepers and no squad can be completed without one.
Is it free?
The core auction is free with no cap on players or teams, and a free auction credit is included on sign-up.
Can managers bid remotely?
Yes. Each manager gets a private console link and can bid from a phone or laptop anywhere.
Can I stream the auction?
Add the overlay as a browser source in OBS or vMix and the stream updates live with every bid.
